Geeks Take on the Shanghai Film Festival and BarCamp
The last leg of our Geeks on a Plane tour is in Shanghai, and our arrival coincided with the Shanghai Film Festival. Lucky us, Christine Lu of Cilantro Media, managed to get the Geeks into the Film Festival after-party at M1NT nightclub. After a night of stargazing (Halle Berry and Clive Owen made an appearance) the Geeks stormed BarCamp Shanghai on day two.

The concept of BarCamp is an un-conference where folks get together and propose topics that are top of mind for discussion. All you have to do is put your name, title, topic, and three keywords on an index card, and the discussion is on! Today we exchanged ideas on loads of topics including online games, social media, user feedback and cross-border initiatives. One of the liveliest interactions of the day came from the “How to Make an iPhone App in 15 minutes” hands-on workshop. The winning idea was for a Girls in Tech “Save Me” iPhone app that helps you delicately remove yourself while you’re being chatted up via an incoming call to your iPhone.
