I recently got a link to the “girls in tech” site. As a software developer and development team manager in the health care industry, I was intrigued by this concept. Yes, there aren’t enough women in tech. However, after looking through your site and a description of your staff, I am disappointed to see that “girls in tech” is mostly conceived of, staffed by, and attended by social marketers and PR professionals. Did you guys know those are not really tech fields? Just because you use a computer to get on LinkedIn does not make you a technologist. Yikes.

Hi Lisa,
Thank you for your interest in Girls in Tech. We do appreciate your feedback and you have a very valid concern.
As an organization supporting and empowering women in technology, we pride ourselves in encompassing all different industries within the tech umbrella. We hold events for a variety of different interests and industries such as tech, legal, entrepreneurs, designers, authors, developers, gamers, engineers etc. Although you are correct that a large portion of our current advisory team has a background in Marketing, we actively pursue leaders for Girls in Tech that have diverse technical talents and are enthusiastic about leading the cause for empowering women in technology.
I do hope to meet you at the Boise launch event and address your concerns in person. I think you’ll find that our group supports all women in technology and provides a place to collaborate together. As a Software Engineer working in the tech industry, I promise to provide not only great diverse events for the group as a whole, but will also hold very specific engineering/development workshops and events.
If you are a woman working in technology, you are welcome at Girls in Tech and will find not only the opportunity to enhance your skills and collaborate within your field, but will also benefit from a wide variety of talented, enthusiastic, and influential women working with technology in our area.
I hope to see you there! It’s going to be a great opportunity to celebrate Boise’s diverse group of Girls in Technology.
Best regards,
Candace Sweigart
